Energy Efficiency

 At our Target group facilities, energy efficiency is a cornerstone of our environmental policy. We continuously improve energy efficiency in our manufacturing facilities in the following ways:

Lamp choice and lighting upgrades. We have upgraded all hi-bays in our manufacturing facilities from Mercury Vapor to Quartz Induction lamps. These lamps are highly efficient and have a long usage life. Our production lines are lit with T5 HO fluorescent tubes and LED light sources. Our office space is lit with a combination of LED lighting, compact fluorescent lighting and T5 fluorescent tubes.

Equipment upgrades. We replaced many of our older die casting machines in 2007; newer equipment is more energy efficient. Most of our die casting will be fed from central melt furnaces, which is a more efficient use of energy than melting ingot in many different side pots. These energy efficiency gains effectively reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are emitted as a by-product of petrochemical refining and electrical power generation.

RoHS: All Target facilities have the ability to provide products in accordance with RoHS requirements, upon request.

LEED: Target engineers are experienced in designing lighting fixtures with the types of materials and energy efficiency-to-light-output ratios that allows them to be used in LEED-certified building projects.

Recycling

Target is committed to reducing use of materials, reducing waste and recycling used materials wherever possible in our manufacturing processes. Our assembly and manufacturing facilities recycle:

Boxboard

Scrap sheet metal, ferrous and non-ferrous

Wire

Glass

Plastic

Foam packaging material

These materials are collected by us and sold on contract to local recycling companies for re-manufacture and use in other industries here in China. Recycling of these materials reduces use of energy- and resource-intensive virgin materials, thus benefiting our environment.

As a die caster, we practice responsible aluminum recycling from our casting process: we return all scrap (gates, runners, flash) to our ingot supplier. That foundry re-melts and superheats the scrap in large furnaces to remove impurities, and then adds back elements and virgin material as necessary in order to create the certified aluminum ingot we use in our die casting facility. Since it is melting and not smelting, this recycling process uses a fraction of the energy that is used to smelt aluminum ore.

Water Reclamation

 

Our die casting facility, Xiongzhi Lighting Industrial Co. Ltd., has a pioneering 3-step water filtration system that enables us to reclaim the water used in our most water-intensive production processes: die casting and powder coat pre-treatment.

In die casting, water is piped to the machines and used to cool the dies. It becomes mixed with mold release, machine oil and flash (scrap aluminum pieces) during the manufacturing process. This water flows from the trough around our casting machines to the first of three underground cisterns for primary water filtration. After primary filtration (in which large pieces of matter are strained out), the water moves to secondary and tertiary filtration in which the oils and mold release chemicals are removed. After filtration is completed, the water is cycled back to the machines to be re-used in the casting process.

During powder coat surface pre-treatment, water becomes contaminated with the various pre-treatment chemicals used in this process. We send the fluid from our pre-treatment tanks through a water filtration process as described above, and it is purified so that it can be used again. In order to enable the use of this water reclamation system for our pre-treatment lines, we have eliminated the use of hexavalent chromium from our in-house powder coating pre-treatment process. Our new RoHS-compliant undercoat for powder coating aluminum die castings is mentioned in our RoHS statement as well as our facility description for Xiongzhi.

In addition to a cost savings on water usage, these built-in environmentally friendly practices help us provide a healthier environment for ourselves and our neighbors. With these practices in place, Xiongzhi's clean manufacturing exceeds the requirements of local environmental regulations.
