Our philosophy embodies the principle that Target is a part of our community as well as our world. We feel that we have been blessed in our time with abundant work and opportunity for learning, business growth and expansion. In this spirit, it is our responsibility to give back to our community, both local and global, for the betterment of all.
Here are some recent examples of Target's efforts in giving back to our community:
Thailand tsunami, December 2004. Target's employees collected donations internally, and their donated amount was matched by the corporation. This donation was given to the Chinese Red Cross for aid and assistance in that disaster.
Pakistan earthquake, October 2005. Target made a donation to the Hong Kong Red Cross in support of victims of this disaster.
Funding for new school. Target donated funds to build a new school in an outlying village in Shaanxi Province. Our donation built the building, fully furnished it and provided a year's worth of the standard learning materials required by its students. This school opened in September 2007 for the first time. You can see a picture of the school here.
Need-based scholarships. In 2007, Target donated a lump sum of money from which need-based tuition aid was drawn to support university students all over China.
Sichuan Earthquake, May 2008. Target staff made very generous donations and the company matched their donations, with the entire sum going to reconstruction and disaster relief organizations in China.
Need-based scholarships. In 2008, Target donated a large sum of money to be used for need-based tuition aid for college and university students in Fujian and Guangdong provinces. |
